Driver CPC renewal: what operators need to know

Every professional HGV driver must complete 35 hours of periodic training every five years to keep their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Miss the deadline and the driver simply cannot legally work — which is why operators should track renewal dates across their whole driving workforce.

The most common failure we see is drivers leaving training to the final months, then finding courses fully booked. Booking training steadily across the five-year block avoids the bottleneck and spreads the cost.

When we supply drivers, CPC validity is one of the first checks we run, alongside licence and tacho-card verification — so the driver who arrives on site is legal to drive from minute one.

Need staff who already pass these checks?

Every candidate we supply is screened before they reach your site.
