Under the EYFS statutory framework, ratios in England are: 1:3 for children under two, 1:5 for two-year-olds, and 1:8 (or 1:13 with a qualified teacher) for children aged three and over. At least one staff member must hold a full and relevant Level 3 qualification, and every setting needs a named safeguarding lead.
Ratios are where good supply cover earns its keep. One absence without cover can put a room out of ratio — which is why settings keep a relationship with an agency that can send a vetted, qualified practitioner at short notice.
All of our childcare candidates hold an enhanced DBS, verified qualifications and paediatric first aid, so they can count towards ratio from their first shift.
